Basketball Recap: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Comes Up Short

Our Lady of Mount Carmel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 76-22 loss at the hands of the McDonogh Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Eagles are ranked 19th).

Despite the defeat, Our Lady of Mount Carmel saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kyra Rideout posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 59.1% of the Cougars' points, marking the sixth time in a row Rideout has put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamiya Brown, who earned nine points.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for McDonogh, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on New Town at 5:30 p.m. on January 14, 2026. As for McDonogh, they and Mount de Sales Academy will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played.
