Baseball Recap: Pomperaug's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Pomperaug nor Plainville made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Panthers beat the Blue Devils by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won three games in a row.

Alex Augustine spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Brocksmith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Pomperaug's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Brayden Cloutier was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Pomperaug's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Plainville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

Coming up, Pomperaug will square off against New Milford at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Plainville will be paying especially close attention to the Panthers' match: after the Panthers face off against Masuk, they'll take on Plainville again at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
