Softball Recap: Toms River South Takes a Loss

Toms River South extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 10-13 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lacey Township Lions. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Candy Peck was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Tuper, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.

As for Lacey Township, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.1 runs over those games.

On Lacey Township's side, Bella Byk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. Byk has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia Capone, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Chloe Emmons was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Toms River South wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 8-2 win against St. Rose on the 20th. As for Lacey Township, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-4 victory against Toms River North on the 19th.
