Football Recap: Jemison Falls to St. Clair County in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Jemison unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by the St. Clair County Fighting Saints 61-21 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Fighting Saints are ranked 34th).

When it comes to explaining why Jemison lost, don't look at Adrian Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 149 yards on only 12 carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards and one score. Davis got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 78 yards. Cayvon Wade was in the mix too, providing Jemison with two TDs.

St. Clair County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Landyn Smith, who threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 65 yards and one score on only six carries. Smith has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Randy Pettway, who rushed for 167 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 carries.

Jemison didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-14 loss against Chilton County on the 28th. As for St. Clair County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 42-28 win against Montgomery Catholic on the 29th.
