Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Apple Valley). They put the hurt on the Hesperia Scorpions with a sharp 22-3 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Sun Devils in their matchups with the Scorpions: they've now won seven in a row.
Makaylee Cerf was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Brooke Johnson was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Hailey Macias was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Apple Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in five consecutive matches.
Apple Valley's record is now 9-4-1. As for Hesperia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11-1 record this season.
