Basketball Game Preview: Ayden - Grifton Chargers vs. Greene Central Rams

Ayden - Grifton is 2-8 against Greene Central since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ayden - Grifton Chargers will face off against the Greene Central Rams at 7:30 p.m. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Hatteras Jenkins and Dontrez Evans.

Ayden - Grifton is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since February 27, 2024 on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Farmville Central and fell 90-49. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Jaguars are ranked 23rd).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Greene Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They managed a 64-60 win over North Pitt on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Rams as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Greene Central's win came from a few key players Ayden - Grifton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Deitrich Williams, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evans, who scored 11 points and five steals.

The win got Greene Central back to even at 8-8. As for Ayden - Grifton, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Ayden - Grifton came up short against Greene Central when the teams last played on January 3rd, falling 70-61. Can Ayden - Grifton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
