Softball Recap: Northwest Takes a Loss

Northwest extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They lost 24-3 to the New Miami Vikings. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by exactly 21 runs.

Lilyanah Santel made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

As for New Miami, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

On New Miami's side, Mikaela Lema made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). Lema has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs, three RBI, and one triple. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maraiah Powell, who went 4-for-6 with six RBI, four runs, and one triple. Ryleigh Fox was another key player, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and one run.

Northwest has already played their next contest (against Western Hills), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for New Miami, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-0 win against Middletown Christian on the 18th.
