Softball Recap: Northeastern Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Northeastern ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 win over the Mechanicsburg Indians. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Jets have posted since March 21st.

Kylee Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Ashlynn Bowser was incredible, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Laney Phillips was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Northeastern and bumps their season record up to 5-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Mechanicsburg, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Northeastern will face off against Grove City Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Jets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Mechanicsburg, they will square off against Catholic Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
