Baseball Game Preview: Dexter Southfield vs. Marianapolis Prep Golden Knights

Dexter Southfield will challenge the Marianapolis Prep Golden Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Dexter Southfield will be strutting in after a win while Marianapolis Prep will be coming in after a loss.

Dexter Southfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Cushing Academy on Wednesday. Dexter Southfield not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 13, 2024 (when they won 14-2).

Dexter Southfield got a great performance from Ian McWhinnie as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave McWhinnie a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Gabe Malaret was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Seamus Condon was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.

Dexter Southfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Marianapolis Prep came up short against Varsity Opponent on Wednesday and fell 8-4. The Golden Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Owen Richardson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Lee, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Dexter Southfield's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Marianapolis Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
