Baseball Recap: St. Joseph's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After flying high against Bridgeton last Tuesday, St. Joseph came back down to earth. The Wildcats lost 8-1 to the Egg Harbor Township Eagles on Thursday. The Wildcats were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matches prior), but the Eagles' pitchers proved too tough.

St. Joseph saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paul Spena, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Frank Somogy also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

St. Joseph's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-3. As for Egg Harbor Township, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph will square off against Holy Spirit at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Egg Harbor Township, they will welcome Middle Township at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season.
