Baseball Recap: Lumberton's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Lumberton won against Seventy-First last Wednesday with 21 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Pirates beat the Douglas Byrd Eagles by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 21-1. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Noah Britt and Austin Thorndyke made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Britt pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Thorndyke pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Britt scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Thorndyke scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Those three hits gave Britt a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Bryson Hester looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Stueck, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jayden Graham was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Lumberton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Lumberton and bumps their season record up to 13-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Douglas Byrd, they are on a 35-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lumberton will face off against Purnell Swett at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Douglas Byrd, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cape Fear at 6:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
