Baseball Recap: Badger/Greenbush-Middle River Takes a Loss

Badger/Greenbush-Middle River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons, falling 14-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Gators of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Nathan Gust put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Will Foss made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Chase Lorenson also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Badger/Greenbush-Middle River's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Fertile-Beltrami, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.

Badger/Greenbush-Middle River wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-0 defeat against Northern Freeze co-op [Marshall County Central/Tri-County] on the 12th. As for Fertile-Beltrami, they will face off against Mahnomen/Waubun at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderbirds have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
