Volleyball Recap: Benjamin Takes a Loss

If Benjamin was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Oxbridge Academy on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Buccaneers fell just short of the Cardinal Newman Crusaders by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buccaneers of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Benjamin took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-6.

Emma Markin paced Benjamin's offense, picking up 14 kills. Markin got some help from Riley McCaughey and her 32 assists. McCaughey also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Izzy Levi-Minzi, racking up two apiece.

Benjamin's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Cardinal Newman, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Benjamin has already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Calvary Christian Academy on the 18th. As for Cardinal Newman, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against West Boca Raton on the 18th.
