Softball Recap: Narraguagus Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Machias

Narraguagus faced Machias in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Knights fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-4. That makes it the first time this season the Knights have let down their home crowd.

Natalie Stanwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Emma Shaw was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Erica Rackliff, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Narraguagus' defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Machias, the win keeps they at an undefeated 6-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Narraguagus will venture away from home to take on Washington Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Machias, they will head out to challenge Bangor Christian at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
