Preview: Polk County Wolverines vs. East Rutherford Cavaliers
Polk County has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the East Rutherford Cavaliers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Polk County posted their biggest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 55-21 win over Chase at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-2.
Polk County found their leader in underclassman Bailey Staton, who scored 19 points. Staton hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Bradley, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, East Rutherford took their matchup on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 70-32 win over R-S Central. Given East Rutherford's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while R-S Central is ranked 488th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Polk County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for East Rutherford, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road.
Polk County lost to East Rutherford on the road by a decisive 68-52 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Polk County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
