Baseball Game Preview: Sahuarita Mustangs vs. Cholla Chargers

The Sahuarita Mustangs will head out to face off against the Cholla Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sahuarita's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Cholla's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Sahuarita is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since April 18, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Nogales by a score of 5-3. The Mustangs have struggled against the Apaches recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Cholla hadn't done well against Marana recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Chargers had just enough and edged out the Tigers 2-1. The victory was nothing new for the Chargers as they're now sitting on five straight.

Raymond Molina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit.

On the hitting side, Cholla saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Alvarez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Cholla's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sahuarita, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-3-1.

Sahuarita was able to grind out a solid win over Cholla when the teams last played back in March of 2016, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
