Recap: Union Pines Vikings vs. Richmond Raiders
The Union Pines Vikings have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They had to suffer through a rough 75-47 loss at the hands of Richmond. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Union Pines in their matchups with Richmond: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the loss, Union Pines still got an impressive performance from Jaylen Kyle, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Leonard, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
Richmond's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braylon Barfield, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Barfield continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jamarion Wall, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Union Pines' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. As for Richmond, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union Pines will take on Hoke County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Richmond, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Lee County at 7:30 p.m. Lee County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 185 points over their last three contests.
