Baseball Game Preview: St. Mary's Knights vs. Arcadia Titans

St. Mary is 0-4 against Arcadia since April of 2023 but things could change on Monday. St. Mary's will host Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, St. Mary's needed a bit of extra time to put away Marcos de Niza. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Padres.

Luis Mejia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sean Berry, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Arcadia, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Cactus Shadows 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Titans have posted since April 12, 2024.

Arcadia's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Young, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Young also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another was LJ Donahue, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Arcadia's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Mary's, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-5.

St. Mary's might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Arcadia when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can St. Mary's avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
