Baseball Recap: Pomfret School Find Success

While Pomfret School didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Berkshire School Bears by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday. For the Griffins, this counts as revenge for the 9-0 victory the Bears walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Carson Ames made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ames was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Seth Duerden tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Mason Gordon and Shep Wilcox did most of the damage at the plate: Gordon scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Wilcox scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Those two runs gave Wilcox a new career-high. Sam Power also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Pomfret School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berkshire School only posted an OBP of .214.

The win made it two in a row for Pomfret School and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Berkshire School, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pomfret School is set to challenge their familiar foe Suffield Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Berkshire School will square off against rival Millbrook School at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
