Softball Game Preview: Mechanicsburg Indians vs. Northeastern Jets

Mechanicsburg has gone a perfect 10-0 against Northeastern recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Indians will face off against the Jets at 5:00 p.m. Mechanicsburg will be strutting in after a win while Northeastern will be coming in after a loss.

Mechanicsburg will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Catholic Central on Friday. The Indians put the hurt on the Irish with a sharp 18-0 victory. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Mylee DeLong made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery McDowell, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Marilyn Wilhelm, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Mechanicsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Northeastern's offense. They came up short against West Jefferson on Saturday, falling 10-0. The Jets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Northeastern's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Mechanicsburg, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Mechanicsburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Northeastern in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
