Soccer Game Preview: Calhoun vs. Rome

The Calhoun Yellow Jackets are taking a road trip to square off against the Rome Wolves at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Calhoun's offense. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sonoraville on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Calhoun can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 248th, while Sonoraville are ranked 113th).

Meanwhile, Rome had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Raiders get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for Rome, who have now won ten matches by three goals or more so far this season.

Rome's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Calhoun, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Calhoun beat Rome by a goal in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellow Jackets since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
