Baseball Game Preview: Godwin Eagles vs. Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks

The Godwin Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Godwin has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Godwin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Greenbrier Christian Academy, who was ranked fourth at the time (Godwin was ranked eighth). Godwin fell just short of Greenbrier Christian Academy by a score of 4-3 on Monday. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.

Godwin got a good showing from Cal Travers, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Travers has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, William Canfield made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Atlantic Shores Christian waltzed into their game on Saturday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Cadets.

Atlantic Shores Christian pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average this season. As for Godwin, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.
