Basketball Recap: Mattawan Comes Up Short

Mattawan lost against Portage Central back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mattawan Wildcats were dealt a 53-23 loss at the hands of the Portage Central Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Mustangs are ranked 168th).

Mattawan dropped their record down to 1-8 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Portage Central, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mattawan will take on Gull Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gull Lake will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Mattawan surely won't give up without a fight. As for Portage Central, they will challenge Kalamazoo Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Portage Central is facing Kalamazoo Central at the right time seeing as Kalamazoo Central is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
