Oswego is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will head out to challenge the Central Square Redhawks at 5:00 p.m.
Oswego fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Jamesville-DeWitt on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Rams by a score of 5-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Buccaneer in their meetings with the Red Rams: they've now lost seven in a row.
Maria Sweet put in work no matter where she played. She struck out 17 batters over 7.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Sweet was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Sweet wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaelyn Bond, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central Square). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Pulaski a 24-0 shutout on Saturday. With that win, the Redhawks brought their scoring average up to 10 runs per game.
Like Oswego, Central Square also got a great game from a two-way player: Abby Koagel. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Koagel was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Griesmyer, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. She also put up four RBI, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Abigail Fazzino, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
Central Square kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.
Oswego suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Central Square when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Buccaneer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
