Basketball Game Preview: River View Black Bears vs. Ridgewood Generals

The River View Black Bears will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Ridgewood Generals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. River View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season.

River View is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 72-71 to Philo. The Black Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

River View's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Hayden Walters, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 20 points, and Layton Massie, who posted 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. The dominant performance gave Massie a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Laired Williamson, who had nine points and six rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: River View was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ridgewood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 46-36 victory over Millersport on Saturday. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Generals were the better team in the second half.

River View's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Ridgewood, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

River View came out on top in a nail-biter against Ridgewood in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, sneaking past 42-39. Does River View have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ridgewood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
