Basketball Recap: Buckhannon-Upshur Comes Up Short

Buckhannon-Upshur lost against Lewis County back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers lost 62-41 to the Lewis County Minutemen. The Buccaneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Buckhannon-Upshur still got an impressive performance from Alyssa Abel, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 15 boards. Abel's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Allie Key was another key player, putting up six points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Buckhannon-Upshur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Payten Goodwin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lewis County, almost dropping a double-double with 21 points and nine steals. Lewis County is 3-1 when Goodwin posts five or more steals, but 6-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Pinkney, who posted nine points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Buckhannon-Upshur's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Lewis County, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Buckhannon-Upshur wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-54 defeat against Philip Barbour on the 19th. As for Lewis County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 71-49 win against Bridgeport on the 19th.
