Basketball Recap: Marcus Burkett's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fort Collins over Fossil Ridge

Fort Collins fought the good fight in their overtime match against Fossil Ridge on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Fossil Ridge SaberCats by a score of 50-47. The Lambkins have struggled against the SaberCats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Fort Collins lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Marcus Burkett, who posted 13 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Peterson, who earned 11 points.

Fossil Ridge found their leader in freshman Malachai Egbuji, who went 7 for 11 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds. Those 14 points gave Egbuji a new career-high. Carter Gray was another key player, putting up five points.

Fort Collins' defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Fossil Ridge, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Fort Collins didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-31 loss against Loveland on the 7th. As for Fossil Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-46 victory against Windsor on the 7th.
