Baseball Recap: Hilliard Darby Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Hilliard Darby proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats 4-2. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Matt Irwin looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Hilliard Darby is 8-3 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hilliard Darby saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Bowzer, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Hilliard Darby is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Hilliard Davidson, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.

Coming up, Hilliard Darby will take on Whetstone at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Braves' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hilliard Davidson, they will square off against Hayes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
