Baseball Recap: Platte Valley Wins Going Away Against Brush

Platte Valley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Brush on Monday. The Broncos were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Beetdiggers. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Dagan Gomez, who gave up just four hits to keep Brush off the board. Gomez has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mason Hunt and Hudson Flummerfelt did most of the damage at the plate: Hunt went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Flummerfelt went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Flummerfelt is becoming a predictor of Platte Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cooper Moffatt, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Platte Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Brush, they moved to 10-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Platte Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-5 loss against Sterling on the 29th. As for Brush, they will challenge Strasburg at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Beetdiggers are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
