Football Recap: Brunswick Pirates vs. Statesboro Blue Devils
If Brunswick was riding high fresh off their 60-14 takedown of Bradwell Institute last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Statesboro Blue Devils on Friday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Brunswick lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Heze Kent, who picked up 143 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. He was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 57 yards. Josiah Gibbons handled things on the ground, rushing for 101 yards.
Keon Childers had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 76 yards and four touchdowns, while also picking up 71 receiving yards for Statesboro. That's the most receiving yards Childers has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gage Newsome, who rushed for 113 yards.
Brunswick's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Statesboro, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brunswick will head out to challenge Lakeside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Statesboro, they will venture away from home to square off against Evans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
