Baseball Recap: Moon Valley Takes a Loss

Moon Valley extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 4-18. They lost 14-7 to the Goldwater Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-3 on Monday.

Harlan Marquez-Hill stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. Moon Valley is 3-1 when Marquez-Hill posts two or more runs, but 1-17 otherwise. Fayaz Safa also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

As for Goldwater, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-13. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Goldwater's side, Connor Heather made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Heather was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two triples, and three RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jose Montes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Blake Lipkin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Moon Valley will venture away from home to challenge Greenway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Demons have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Goldwater, they will welcome Marcos de Niza at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
