Basketball Recap: Mount Vernon Comes Up Short

Mount Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against the Salt Lake Academy Griffins, falling 64-33. The Patriots were not able to make up for their loss to the Griffins from their previous meeting back in December of 2020.

When it comes to explaining why Mount Vernon lost, don't look at Andre Hernandez. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Wharton, who put up six points.

Braylon Brock continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Salt Lake Academy, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Brock's morning made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Elijah Johnson was another key player, going 5 of 6 on his way to 10 points and five steals.

Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Salt Lake Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Mount Vernon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Tabiona at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. As for Salt Lake Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 73-35 defeat against Green River on the 21st.
