Recap: Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen vs. Community Christian Warriors
After a string of five wins, the Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 60-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Community Christian. Garland Christian Academy found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 22 to 7 on offense.
Garland Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caden Sandlin, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 39.2% of Garland Christian Academy's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Aiden Tiet was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with two steals.
Community Christian found their leader in underclassman Josiah Marquez, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Marquez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Blackburn, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Garland Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Community Christian, the win was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garland Christian Academy on the road again on Tuesday and play against Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. Highlands is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for Community Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Trinity Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
