Basketball Recap: Vernon Comes Up Short

Vernon extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-14. They were dealt a 74-15 defeat at the hands of the Ponce De Leon Pirates. The Yellowjackets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-12.

As for Ponce De Leon, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Ponce De Leon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brayden Yates led the charge by going 5-for-9 on his way to 12 points and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Yates a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Banner Collins, who shot 71% from the field en route to 15 points.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vernon will welcome Graceville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ponce De Leon, they will challenge Sneads at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
