Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Mountaineers vs. McDonald County Mustangs

The Mt. Vernon Mountaineers will face off against the McDonald County Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Mt. Vernon was handed a eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Seneca 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mountaineers have posted since May 11, 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McDonald County). They skirted past Aurora 7-5. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Houn Dawgs: they've now won three in a row.

Mt. Vernon's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for McDonald County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-10.

Everything went Mt. Vernon's way against McDonald County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Mt. Vernon made off with a 12-1 win. Will the Mountaineers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
