Softball Game Preview: Wewahitchka Gators vs. Liberty County Bulldogs

Wewahitchka and Liberty County are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wewahitchka Gators will venture away from home to face off against the Liberty County Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wewahitchka came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-1 to Trenton. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Gators couldn't push the score so high this time.

Severa Haney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and eight unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Emma Rustin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Liberty County waltzed into their contest on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Tiger Sharks by a score of 6-2.

Wewahitchka dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Liberty County, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Wewahitchka suffered a grim 20-3 defeat to Liberty County in their previous matchup last Friday. Can Wewahitchka avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
