The Economedes Jaguars will face off against the St. Joseph Academy Bloodhounds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Economedes' favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
Last Thursday, Economedes humbled Pace with a 52-20 victory. Fans of the Jaguars have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Economedes got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Carlos Garcia out in front who rushed for 114 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries. Garcia's longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Rey Luna, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Economedes was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 594 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 290 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Academy had to suffer through a 59-15 loss at the hands of Regents. The defeat continues a trend for the Bloodhounds in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost seven in a row.
Economedes will need to focus on slowing down Gavin Cisneros, one of several St. Joseph Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 242 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 93 yards. A healthy portion of Cisneros' aerial production (126 yards to be exact) went to Andre Cristiano.
St. Joseph Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Economedes, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Economedes has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 417.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 228 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
