Softball Recap: Mineral County Takes Down Virginia City in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Mineral County had no trouble coming through when it counted. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Virginia City Muckers 22-21. This was a revenge game for the Serpents: when they faced off against the Muckers back in April, they had to take a 17-6 defeat.

Jazmin Serrato was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, eight RBI, and three runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caitlynn Sanchez, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mineral County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Mineral County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Virginia City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-11-1.

Coming up, Mineral County will square off against Wells at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Virginia City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
