Volleyball Game Preview: Longmeadow Lancers vs. East Longmeadow Spartans

Longmeadow has gone a perfect 10-0 against East Longmeadow recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Lancers will challenge the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Longmeadow got the win against Westfield by a conclusive 3-0.

The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-21, 25-13.

Caroline Croteau was the offensive standout of the contest as she had seven aces and five digs. Those five digs gave her a new career-high.

Croteau wasn't the only good servers: Longmeadow was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 19 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, East Longmeadow had already won four in a row and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 3-0 victory.

East Longmeadow's got stronger as the match went on, holding Ludlow to fewer and fewer points set over set. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-20, 25-18.

Longmeadow's record is now 15-2. As for East Longmeadow, their record now sits at an identical 15-2.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Longmeadow has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 12.8 aces per game. However, it's not like East Longmeadow struggles in that department as they've been averaging 16.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Longmeadow took their win against East Longmeadow in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
