Basketball Recap: Deforest Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Holmen came into Friday's contest looking for another win against DeForest, but Brinley Goninen wouldn't allow it. It took a bit of extra time, but the Norskies secured a 45-43 victory against the Vikings in overtime on Friday thanks in part to Goninen: he went 9-for-15 on her way to 22 points along with six rebounds and five blocks. Goninen is becoming a predictor of DeForest's success: when she posts at least 20 points the team is undefeated (and 6-9 when she doesn't).

The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Accuardi, who posted 11 points in addition to seven boards and four blocks. She is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

DeForest moved to 9-9 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Holmen, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.

DeForest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 68-44 victory against Baraboo on the 31st. Holmen has also already played their next game (against Chippewa Falls), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
