Softball Recap: New Holstein's Run of Nine Straight Wins Now Over

New Holstein dropped their record down to 11-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valders Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 back in April.

New Holstein saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Danes, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Valders, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

On Valders' side, Megan Hochkammer made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Hochkammer has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makayla Dallas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. Arianna Hernandez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

New Holstein didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah on the 13th. As for Valders, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-2 win against Manitowoc Lutheran on the 13th.
