Football Recap: Morgan Park Skates Past Lincoln Park with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Morgan Park). They claimed a resounding 50-0 win over the Lincoln Park Lions. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mustangs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Lions are ranked 245th).

A big part of Morgan Park's victory came down to the chemistry between Ronald Smith Jr. and his top target Travezz Jones. Smith Jr. rushed for 54 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries while Jones picked up 143 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Jones' longest reception was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

The win (which was Morgan Park's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 3.0 points on average over those games. As for Lincoln Park, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Morgan Park is set to face off against their familiar foe King at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Mustangs 9.3, the Jaguars 13.5) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Lincoln Park will challenge rival Johnson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
