Basketball Recap: Northfield Norsemen vs. Southwood Knights
With a playoff game on the line, the Northfield Norsemen rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 51-42 win over the Knights. Winning may never get old, but Northfield sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Leading Northfield to victory were Elli Baker and Hannah Holmes. Baker scored 20 points, while Holmes dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Baker has scored all season.
Southwood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Gracie Lambert, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Lola Winer was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Southwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northfield only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Northfield's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Southwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
Northfield won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Southwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
