Basketball Recap: Topsail Falls Despite Big Games from Charley Moore and Sailor Heitmann

After flying high against New Bern on Friday, Topsail came back down to earth. The Pirates fell 50-45 to the Croatan Cougars on Tuesday. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 42-39.

Despite the loss, Topsail had strong showings from Sailor Heitmann, who posted five points in addition to six steals and five rebounds, and Charley Moore, who scored 11 points and seven boards. Heitmann also put up a block, which was her first of the season. Kennedy Bell was another key player, putting up six points.

Croatan found their leader in sophomore Leah Johnson, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 16 points. Johnson has also also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: she's posted one of at least 50% every time she's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Hannah Buchan, who had ten points.

Topsail's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Croatan, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, Topsail will head out on the road to square off against Pender at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Croatan, they will host East Duplin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
