Softball Recap: Long Trail Comes Up Short

Long Trail extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-4. They came up short against the Leland & Gray Rebels, falling 20-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Long Trail of the 10-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Leland & Gray, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The matchup marked their most dominant win of the season.

For Leland & Gray's part, McKinley Bertram made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Bertram has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Hallock, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Julia Devine, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Long Trail will challenge Poultney at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Leland & Gray, they will take on Mill River at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
