Basketball Recap: Doherty Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Doherty came into Tuesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They enjoyed a cozy 50-35 win over the Pueblo West Cyclones on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Doherty's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nelah Thompson led the charge by shooting 58% from the field on her way to 18 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was LaLannie Donald, who posted 12 points along with eight boards and five steals.

Payton Odell and Raquel Alvarado certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Odell went 5-for-12 en route to 15 points, while Alvarado scored 12 points and five rebounds.

Doherty's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Pueblo West, they dropped their record down to 5-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Doherty didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-33 win against Rampart on the 22nd. As for Pueblo West, they will take on Pine Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
