Softball Game Preview: Ottawa Pirates vs. Geneseo Maple Leafs

Ottawa has won four straight games at home, while Geneseo has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Pirates will host the Maple Leafs at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.

Ottawa barely beat Sterling the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates put the hurt on the Golden Warriors with a sharp 9-2 win on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, while Geneseo put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Quincy. The Maple Leafs were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Blue Devils. Considering the Maple Leafs have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Geneseo got a great performance from Kendyl Wassenhove as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Wassenhove has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Kennedy was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Penny Kline, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Geneseo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Geneseo's victory bumped their record up to 22-8. As for Ottawa, their win bumped their record up to 18-10.
