Basketball Recap: West Orange Falls Short Against Ranked Hillsborough

On Thursday, West Orange faced Hillsborough in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The West Orange Mountaineers took a 58-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hillsborough Raiders.

Several Mountaineers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anaya Karriem, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. Karriem's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Rhyan Watt was another key player, putting up 17 points and four steals.

West Orange's loss dropped their record down to 20-7. As for Hillsborough, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 17-5 record this season.

West Orange and Hillsborough are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. West Orange will take on Memorial on Thursday. West Orange is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season. As for Hillsborough, they will square off against Long Branch on Thursday.
