Soccer Game Preview: San Benito vs. Veterans Memorial

The San Benito Greyhounds will challenge the Veterans Memorial Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

San Benito is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Los Fresnos on Friday. San Benito lost 4-1 to Los Fresnos. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Falcons are ranked 34th).

San Benito's goal came courtesy of Francisco Barrientos, who's now up to four this season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Veterans Memorial's offense. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Los Fresnos on Tuesday.

Veterans Memorial's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-7-1. As for San Benito, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-4-2.

San Benito beat Veterans Memorial by a goal in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 2-1. Does San Benito have another victory up their sleeve, or will Veterans Memorial turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
