Basketball Recap: Sofia Laria's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Palmer Trinity over Schoolhouse Prep

If Palmer Trinity was feeling good fresh off their 68-21 takedown of Palmetto last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Palmer Trinity Falcons fell just short of the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack by a score of 44-41 on Thursday. It was the first time this season that the Falcons let down their fans at home.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sofia Laria, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Laria has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Esparza, who posted seven points along with six boards and four steals.

Lya Gonzalez was her usual excellent self, going 8 for 16 en route to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals for Schoolhouse Prep. Kalem Preston was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Palmer Trinity's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Schoolhouse Prep, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.

Palmer Trinity will be playing in front of their home fans against Doral Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Schoolhouse Prep has already played their next contest, a 74-41 defeat against St. Thomas Aquinas on the 17th.
